RODE VideoMic Directional On-Camera for 50 pounds or buy new RODE VideoMic Pro Compact Directional On-Camera or RODE VideoMic with Rycote Lyre Mount?
Hmm, I prefer the VMP because it’s so small. When you have a huge mic on your camera it’s intimidating to people. They see it and start watching what they say, they shy away even more from the camera. With the small size of the Rode VideoMic Pro people barely notice it, it’s like just a part of your camera. And you’ll barely notice it too…until you hear the amazing audio quality that it delivers, and then you’ll be so thankful you went for the pro version!
Remember when using with a DSLR set the DB on the mic to +20 and it will sound best. Check those audio levels to make sure it’s not peaking, auto works great but it loud environments you’ll want to tone it down in manual audio settings a bit.
Hope this helps!
